Mycopunk: How to Unlock the Mycologist (1.0 Fifth Employee)
The Mycologist is 1.0's headline addition. Where the rescue happens, what her kit does, and how her infection playstyle differs from the original four robots.
Last updated:
The Mycologist joins your crew after you rescue her during the Expedition Alpha mission. She shipped with Mycopunk's 1.0 launch on October 20, 2026.
Who the Mycologist Is
The Mycologist is Mycopunk's fifth playable employee, added when the game left Early Access. The developers introduced her in the 1.0 Steam blog post: "We've been working on the Mycologist for quite a while and we think you'll have a lot of fun with her set of upgrades and her abilities: Sporelift and Fungal Skewer. Plus, a passive infection ability."
Her Kit
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Sporelift | Pull a spore platform from the ground that launches you upward |
| Fungal Skewer | Pull a fungal skewer from the ground that immobilizes enemies, consuming infection for extra damage |
| Infection (passive) | Combat, taking damage and using Fungal Skewer build infection — once full, infection eats your max health |
Her playstyle is a risk economy the other employees do not have: infection is both a resource and a threat. Her upgrade tree leans into it — one branch heals you with Fungal Skewer, another makes infection increase your melee damage, and an Exotic releases a burst that applies your current element to nearby targets whenever an element fully applies to you.
Building Around Her
Her ability grid starts smaller and grows with player level (5x5 up to 7x6), following the same upgrade grid rules as every other employee. Standout tree picks documented by the community wiki include Mushroom Cap (hold a key to create a healing platform beneath you) and Mycelial Network (Fungal Skewer partially recharges Sporelift).
Compare her with the original four on the employees and abilities page.
How do you unlock the Mycologist in Mycopunk?
Rescue her during Expedition Alpha. She became available with the 1.0 update on October 20, 2026.
Is the Mycologist good in Mycopunk?
Her infection economy is demanding — infection eats your max health when full — but her upgrades convert that risk into healing, mobility and melee damage. She rewards players who manage the meter.
What are the Mycologist's abilities?
Sporelift (a launching spore platform), Fungal Skewer (an immobilizing melee skewer that spends infection for damage), and a passive infection ability that builds in combat.
