Mycopunk Upgrade Grid: Rotation, Infusion & Pattern Sizes

The grid is Mycopunk's real character sheet. Here is how pattern shapes, rotation unlocks, roll comparison and infusion fit together after the 1.0 changes.

Last updated:

Mycopunk's grid-based upgrade system turns every gun into a puzzle board. Placement matters as much as the mod itself — and since 1.0, upgrade stats scale with pattern size, so big pieces are no longer just harder to place, they are also stronger.

How the Grid Works

Every weapon, grenade and piece of gear in Mycopunk has its own grid of sockets. Mission rewards hand you mods shaped like Tetris-style pieces — the game calls them molecular strands on its hexagonal 7x7 board — and you drop them into open sockets on whichever item you want to upgrade. Your employee's abilities have their own separate grids, and each employee's grid even grows with player level, from 5x5 up to 7x6.

Because grids are separate per weapon, you are maintaining several small builds at once: one for each primary, one for grenades, one for abilities.

Rotation Unlocks by Level

Upgrade rotation — the ability to turn a piece to a new orientation — unlocks in stages at player level:

RarityPlayer level for rotation
Standard3
Rare8
Epic16
Exotic and above30

Revisit crowded grids as each tier unlocks: a rotated piece often leaves room for exactly the upgrade you had to leave behind.

Compare Rolls Before Scrapping

Hover over an upgrade and hold Interact (E on default PC bindings) to reveal advanced stats, including minimum and maximum roll values. Compare roll and shape against your current copy before scrapping — a better roll with a worse shape can still be a downgrade. Favorite an upgrade with Ping (middle mouse button) to protect it from scrapping.

Pattern Infusion in 1.0

Player level 13 unlocks Incursion, the timed underground mode where progress awards Antimass Substrate — the resource used for pattern infusion. Infusion reshapes an upgrade's pattern so it fits the holes your grid actually has.

The 1.0 change that matters most: most upgrade stats now scale with pattern size. Shrunken infused upgrades are weaker than their original shapes, and several build-defining pieces (Tumbleweed, Big Fat Doobie, Shock Recursion, Double Shot) received new patterns. Rebuild your grids and redo infusions after updating.

How do I get more upgrades for one weapon in Mycopunk?

Focus the weapon from your inventory (unlocked at player level 4) and use Clearance Certificates, which guarantee your next five drops target your equipped primary weapon.

What is upgrade rotation in Mycopunk?

Rotation turns a placed upgrade to a new orientation so it fits differently on the grid. It unlocks by rarity at player levels 3, 8, 16 and 30.

Why did my build get weaker after 1.0?

Mycopunk 1.0 made most upgrade stats scale with pattern size, so shrunken infused pieces deal less than before. Rebuild grids and re-do infusions with full-size patterns where possible.
