How to Get the Chainsaw in Mycopunk (It's the Carver)

Players see the word chainsaw and go looking. The chainsaw in Mycopunk is the Carver — here's the quick path from Broken Frame to fully assembled weapon.

Last updated:

Mycopunk has exactly one chainsaw, and it is a secret weapon called the Carver. You don't buy it or craft it from a menu: you find a Broken Frame in Titan City, gather four Weapon Modules, spend 8 Saxonite unlocking them, and assemble the weapon yourself.

The Chainsaw Is the Carver

If you've heard about a chainsaw in Mycopunk — maybe from the Steam page's boast about putting "a deflector shield on a chainsaw" — the weapon in question is the Carver. It never appears in normal progression, never drops from missions, and isn't part of Armament License unlocks. The community wiki lists it as an "Industrial Cutting Tool," and its in-game description is a warning as much as a sales pitch: "Heavy combat chainsaw with a high user fatality rate."

Because it hides outside the normal flow, most players meet it the other way around: they hear the rumor first and go searching. This page is that search, condensed. The full walkthrough with exact locations lives in our Carver unlock guide.

The Short Version: Five Steps

1. Grab the Broken Frame in Titan City. Run any mission in Titan City, find the lone square building near the residential area (a zipline leads to it), activate the console inside, and follow the linear underground path to the Broken Frame. It also gives you the Server Access Codes.

2. Open the HUB server room. The codes unlock the door on the top floor above your spawn rooms. Inside waits the first Weapon Module.

3. Collect the other three modules. They only spawn once you hold the access codes — one in Gravity Farms (atop a fungus past a fence between buildings), one in Flourishing Desert (in the crashed spaceship's lower thruster), and one in Moldy Tundra (a grapple-heavy ledge on a circular building).

4. Unlock the modules. Each costs two Saxonite plus common resources. Saxonite is a rare completion drop that improves with threat level; the Overtime Assignment at level 12+ guarantees one per run. Details in the Saxonite farming guide.

5. Assemble and equip. Fit the four unlocked modules into the Broken Frame in your inventory — reports differ on whether the final pattern reads as a diamond or a triangle, so rotate until the frame accepts them. The frame becomes the Carver, permanently.

Why Bother Chasing It

The Carver is a commitment — a multi-region hunt plus eight of the scarcest resources in the game. Here's what that buys you:

  • A real melee kit. Killing enemies saws out blood stacks that feed movement speed, extra lightning procs, jump height and more. Keep sawing and the stacks keep paying.
  • Defensive options no gun gets. The Deflector upgrade blocks incoming projectiles while you saw — the exact "chainsaw with a deflector shield" fantasy. Nutritious Cores drops health from every core you kill, keeping you alive inside the swarm.
  • A 1.0 payoff. Turkey's Bloodlust lets you hold reload to spend every blood stack on a temporary damage burst — a built-in boss delete button.
  • An achievement. Assembling it counts toward full completion.

It pairs naturally with frontliners like the Bruiser and with grids built for survival rather than ranged DPS.

Know Its Limits

Melee range in a game full of laser cannons and missile hornets is a real tax. Community tier lists rank the Carver as a specialist: devastating in corridors and chokepoints, awkward on open ground against ranged swarms. If you want a hidden weapon with more general-purpose firepower instead, the Globbler acid launcher or the exotics in secret weapons are the other trophy hunts worth your time. And once you've built it, see how it stacks up in our weapon tier list.

Is there a chainsaw in Mycopunk?

Yes — the Carver. It's a hidden melee chainsaw obtained by finding the Broken Frame in Titan City and assembling four Weapon Modules, not through normal weapon unlocks.

How do I start the chainsaw quest in Mycopunk?

Run any Titan City mission and find the lone square building near the residential area. The console inside opens an underground path leading to the Broken Frame and the Server Access Codes.

How much Saxonite does the chainsaw cost?

Eight — each of the four Broken Frame modules requires two Saxonite to unlock, plus small amounts of common resources.

Is the Carver chainsaw good in Mycopunk?

It's a strong specialist. Its blood-stacking kit, projectile deflection and self-healing reward aggressive melee play, but its range holds it back against distant swarms compared to top-tier guns.

Is the chainsaw a secret weapon?

Yes. The Carver is one of Mycopunk's secret weapons alongside the Globbler acid launcher — neither appears in normal progression or mission reward pools.
